Friday Fiction Feature: Gone Too Far West

Gone Too Far West is technically fiction, but all of the events are based off what was happening in my life at the time of writing it.

It is the first person account of a stoner college student, Flic, who has been given just a year to live. Along with her three best friends, Len, Javan and Jenkies- they decide to make 2018 the best year ever. One night whilst they’re experimenting with drugs, they witness a horrendous murder. None of them really know what happened, but during a trip to Amsterdam to see their favourite band, Tenacious Toes, the lead singer tells them to use drugs to reconstruct their memories of that night. Slowly, events begin to take their toll on the characters.

The thing that sets GTFW apart from other fiction books is the factual aspect. The book includes the 2018 World Cup Games, much loved places in England, Menorca and Holland and every character is based on a person that I’ve met before, so it’s very personal. It’s also full of exciting twists and turns which will be further explored in the follow-on novel that I’m in the process of writing, Len World.

Isobel Wycherley is 20 years old and in her third year of studying linguistics at Manchester Metropolitan University. From a young age she has always enjoyed writing stories and making characters, since she has always had a vivid imagination. She was probably around six years old when she attempted to write her first novel, titled The Gigglyfigs. Unfortunately for everybody, she never finished it.

College has been the favourite time of her life so far and it inspired her to write her first novel. She has many more ideas for the future that she can’t wait to put onto paper.
