The Best Laid Plans … #running #runner #marathon

Robert Burns wrote in his poem To a Mouse: “The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft a-gley.” And how right he was, as this particular mouse had a terrible week with the marathon training!

The week started well enough. We ran 4k on Monday, rest day on Tuesday, 6.5k on Wednesday and 5k on Thursday – all as per the training programme. Friday was a rest day, so we should have been all geared up for our next 6.5k on Saturday, followed by a 10k yesterday, making a total of 32k for the week.

Unfortunately, illness struck Thursday night and, although we rested on Friday, we were not able to run on Saturday and only managed 3k yesterday, giving a total of 18.5k for the week.

Fortunately, we are now fully recovered and have started again, running a comfortable 4k this morning. I’m hoping to be able to boast a total next week of 32k, but let’s see if my best laid plan works out this time!
